Let’s face it, we live in a much busier world, where the time to do little things has shortened considerably as we struggle to get to our next destination on time, and awake. Making coffee the normal way is not a time-consuming business, but it can be even more cut down to size with an automatic coffee maker.
To much disbelief, the automatic coffee maker is not just a new invention, since the automatic coffee maker has been in development since the 19th century. There have been a few types of these coffee makers throughout history. The drip coffeemaker combines aspects of both the drip-brew process and the percolating process with the added feature of heating up the water using an electric element in a separate chamber.
Another style of automatic coffee maker is the percolator, which began development in the mid-19th century. Gravity or pressure is acquired to channel water into contact with coffee for a decent amount of time to infuse an acceptable amount of flavor. Then, those same forces are used to remove the brewed coffee from the grounds, which, to the greatest extent possible, are kept separate from the finished product.
The vacuum brewer heats water in a lower vessel until expansion forces the contents through a narrow tube into an upper vessel containing ground coffee. When the lower vessel is empty and sufficient brewing time has elapsed, the heat is removed. The resulting vacuum draws the brewed coffee back through a strainer into the lower chamber, from which it can be decanted.
The Automatic Coffee Maker and Today
Today, the automatic coffee maker is a much simpler, yet more high-tech machine. With old ways come new, and drip coffee machines have also entered the age of busy lifestyles. Some of the features of the current automatic drip coffee makers include the ability to heat and maintain a water temperature in the 190 to 200 Fahrenheit degree range, spray heads that allow for the even dispersion of water over coffee grounds, and filter holders that are designed for high extraction.
Other coffee makers of note include the espresso coffee machine, filter coffee makers, instant coffee makers, and also the percolator, which has also evolved as the years have gone by. Indeed, an automatic coffee maker should be in any home, because it makes life simpler and gives you that much needed push to start the day.
